Web3 Identity – The Full Guide To Authentication, Identity, And WEB 3.0

Web3 identities are essentially a secure, trusted digital identity for individuals that gives them greater control over their data and personal information. A Web3 identity provides users full control of managing their information directly. For decentralization to be achievable, users need to have control over their Web3 identity.

A core part of Web3 is the idea that users must own and control their own identity on the web, revealing parts of it only if and when they decide to. Decentralized identity puts the user in exclusive control over personal information that forms their identity. Web3 is built around the notion that users should be able to have control of their data, money, and identity, without depending on a central gatekeeper.

A key opportunity Web3 presents in the identity space is the possibility of interoperating with users’ blockchain data. Web3 is young but has already established a presence in the identity space, where users build a unified digital wallet for authentication in a variety of applications. For end users, they could potentially use a single wallet to authenticate their identities across multiple Web3 applications, allowing seamless access experiences.

Similar to how, in Web2, an email address or telephone number could be used to manage identities, in Web3, the user’s wallet address is used to identify and authorize. Using Internet identity, users authenticate using their chosen device and method and then authorize app access.

As we transition from Web2 to Web3, decentralized identity solutions offer the gateway to seamless experiences, with users easily and securely moving across platforms. The decentralized concept not only makes the Web3 user experience more optimized but also makes it more of an authentic place. Decentralized identities provide a stronger basis for better user privacy, and are considered to be the most significant privacy innovation in the past decade.

It is also one of the most significant uses for blockchain, as Dr. Paul Ashley, co-CEO and CTO, told the recent Blockchain Convention in Australia. Read on to see how your customer’s digital identities are about to be transformed with these concepts. As Web3 begins to take hold, the digital identity of a customer will be critical in the way that they move about their lives on the internet.

To fully deliver on Web3 read-write-own promise, developers will need a new way of managing the digital identities for their users. Enabling and facilitating the privacy of users, data, and transactions is crucial to users maintaining ownership of and control of the forms of representational identity they choose. Web3 applications on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other blockchain networks can utilize the same decentralized file storage capabilities to securely store web3 applications over bitcoin data.
